You Must go Through the Valley
Nightfall on Boulder Creek
Influenced by elements of luminism, Brooke Wetzel’s painting style has a strong emphasis on light and value to capture the mood and splendor of the landscape. Living in Montana and Spending time in the wilderness studying, photographing, and painting are essential to her work as that is what informs her art.
From backpacking into the mountains to dropping the anchor of her boat to watch the sunset and rise, she is on a constant quest for the special effects of nature. Secondary to the landscape, Brooke might add small subjects in her paintings, often inspired by her Native American heritage, sightings of wildlife, horses, fisherman, or anything that is naturally a part of the western lifestyle.
Her artistic process began in childhood while spending time emulating her father’s artistic skill and admiring the work of her great uncles who were illustrators for Walt Disney Studios. Being raised in Montana and central Idaho is where she learned to be explorative and developed a great love for the land.
Though Brooke gained recognition with her artistic skill at a young age, it wasn’t until after she continued her education in business and settled down to start a family that she realized her greatest joy and life calling was to express her view through a paintbrush. In 2009, young to the world of art and primarily a self-taught artist, she began to take her artistic skill more seriously. She has since spent a substantial amount of time learning independently and mentoring with other artist. She continues to make enormous strides and exhibits her work in solo shows along with galleries and group exhibitions across the country. Her artwork is in many residencies and private collections throughout the U.S.
