Paul Dykman is an artist that can best be described as classically trained with the talent and ability to capture feeling. Through the years he has developed a preference for the palette knife to achieve cleaner and crisper colors and unique texture. He strives to capture a sense of strong lighting in his paintings, and is rather taken with winter scenes that allow bold coloring in the shadows.
Paul was raised in a family of professional artists in South Africa and in keeping with the Dykman tradition, he was encouraged to draw and paint from an early age. He learned his art techniques from both his father and grandfather, some of South Africa’s most prominent artists in their time. At age thirteen, Paul sold one of his first paintings at a joint exhibition with his father at the Royal Agricultural Show in South Africa.
In 1995, Paul and his family moved to the United States to further his artistic exposure. He has since made Montana his home and his love of the West with its spectacular scenery and imagery has come alive within Paul’s paintings.
