Deborah Berniklau

Deborah Berniklau hails from New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment. Since a childhood that began with chalk drawings on her driveway, art has been the driving force in her life. After noticing her special talent, her parents encouraged private lessons and her life’s mission soon took hold. Berniklau later graduated with a BFA in illustration from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. There she studied privately with the world famous Burne Hogarth. After college, she worked as an illustrator doing commissions for Disney, Warner Brothers, NASA and several noteworthy advertising agencies. After engaging in her fine art career, Berniklau studied privately with master artists Huihan Liu, Carolyn Anderson, Daniel Gerhartz, and Jeffrey Watts. She then fell in love with western art and began to paint stories of the west with passion.

Berniklau’s style combines storytelling with character and emotion in order to capture the essence of the Old West. She takes great pride
in her execution of accurate anatomy in her people, horses, and landscapes.Berniklau uses her Andalusian horse, real cowboys, and Native American models for accurate representations that breathe life into her paintings.
